Clubs and Organizations
Students can join a variety of clubs and organizations at Huntley Middle School (HMS). Permission slips are available in the main office.
Academics and Competitions
- Book Club is for all students who love to read.
- Scholastic Bowl is a team activity similar to the game show Jeopardy, where student teams compete to answer questions about academics, the arts and popular culture.
- Spelling Bee is a spelling competition open to all students. Qualifying students proceed to school, district and county competitions.
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Club is a place for students to take their scientific curiosity to the next level, with projects, experiments and more.
- Study Club provides a quiet environment for students to complete assignments and keep up with their classes. Be sure to bring any supplies you need.
Perspectives and Mentoring
- CHICAS (Changing How I Can Achieve Success) is an association of students, staff and motivational speakers dedicated to providing diverse perspectives on the Latino community and academic success, along with social interaction and reflection on our cultural past. We help students succeed in school and feel more confident.
- Ebony Club supports the success of Black students and promotes positive images of Black people, while enhancing the educational experience for all students. We focus on leadership development, community involvement, sensitivity to issues affecting marginalized groups and reduction of negative stereotypes.
- Equality Club is for students who want to support the differences in our school community. It allows students to learn, be supportive and access resources on topics like LGBTQ+ issues, school safety and anti-bullying.
Service and Leadership
- Builders Club is for students who want to build a better world by helping others and doing fun projects that benefit the school and community.
- Student Council gives students the chance to discuss school issues and plan school events, while helping them build communication, leadership and other skills through service to the school and community.
Art, Drama and Media
- Art Club gives students the opportunity to try out new artistic skills and techniques.
- Drama Club allows students to participate in school plays/musicals. We need students to act, as well as to handle sets, props, costumes and makeup.
- Forensics Team gives students the opportunity to learn and present a variety of public speaking techniques, including monologues and skits.
- Yearbook Club members create the school’s yearbook, including taking photographs, editing and formatting text, and designing yearbook pages.
Music
- Chamber Orchestra is a string ensemble that travels and competes throughout the school year. It’s open to all string students, but an audition is required.
- Jazz Ensemble is an extracurricular ensemble dedicated to studying and performing jazz traditions that emerged between 1920 and 1960, as well as genres that came from jazz, like Latin, rock, fusion and funk music.
- Secondary Instrument Lab provides a fun, informal environment for band students to learn a second instrument in addition to their primary instrument.
Sports and Recreation
- Gamers' Guild is for students who love to play strategy games. We play board games, card games and video games. No card trading is permitted at Gamers' Guild.
- Intramurals is a sports program with activities like bowling, soccer, kickball and dodgeball. You don’t have to come to every activity, just the ones that interest you.
- Outdoor Adventures Club gives students the opportunity to explore activities like kayaking, camping, hiking, bike riding, caving, sledding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and fishing.
